What can you do during your stay at camping Au Cœur du Parc?

Camping Au Cœur du Parc is much more than just a place to stay: it’s also an ideal base for exploring Corrèze and the Plateau de Millevaches, where wild landscapes, peaceful lakes, a rich cultural heritage and so many other local treasures await discovery. So get out your best walking shoes and follow the guide!

The Millevaches Regional Nature Park: a wild paradise to explore!

Between you and us, we know that the star attraction here is the Millevaches Regional Nature Park! Unmissable for its proximity to the campsite, it covers no less than 300,000 hectares of unspoilt countryside where forests, peat bogs, moors and rivers form a picture-postcard setting. Here, you can breathe in the pure air, listen to the murmur of the streams and marvel at the wealth of local flora and fauna. If you’re a keen walker or hiker, you’ve come to the right place, and you’re sure to find something to suit you on one of the park’s many signposted trails. Special mention should be made of the Circuit des Sources de la Vienne, which takes you through wild, undulating countryside. Keep your eyes peeled for deer, otters, peregrine falcons and even the shy European otter. Higher up in the sky, the impressive Great Horned Owl may be putting on a show for you… As far as nature is concerned, Lake Vassivière is a must. We’re sure to welcome some fine anglers! Head to Lac du Chammet (5kms from the campsite) to meet carp and pike on no less than 87ha of playground. You can also explore the Park’s small traditional villages for a taste of culture, and meet the local craftspeople. It’s a great way to combine relaxation and exploration, while creating some great family memories! For the record, there aren’t actually a thousand cows (although… nobody’s counted them!), it’s actually ‘a thousand springs’ in Gallo-Roman.

Peyrelevade, the little corner of Corrèze with all the makings of a big one!

Welcome to the charming village of Peyrelevade! Situated in the heart of the Plateau de Millevaches, where nature reigns supreme and time seems to have adopted the tranquil rhythm of the rivers and forest landscapes that adorn the scenery. There’s no stress here, just wide open spaces and breathtaking scenery. You’ll also appreciate the gentle pace of life… As well as having all the amenities right next door to the campsite (which is pretty handy!), Peyrelevade is also the gateway to a whole host of exciting outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, or simply strolling and admiring: there’s plenty to explore in the surrounding area! You’ll also find traditional markets and local specialities such as chestnut pudding and cep soup, accompanied by a glass of Vin de Paille (in moderation, of course). So, are you ready to get away from it all?

Eymoutiers and Felletin: two nuggets of Limousin not to be missed!

If you love villages with character, old stones that tell stories and good places to sample local specialities, then Eymoutiers and Felletin are the perfect stops for a day out with the family! Two charming villages in the Limousin region where you can enjoy a stroll through heritage, nature and deeply-rooted traditions, just a few kilometres from the campsite. Eymoutiers is the perfect place to lose yourself. With its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and gentle way of life, it’s a real picture-postcard setting. Once renowned for its tanners, the town has retained its old-world charm while becoming a small haven of culture and nature. In terms of culture, you’ll probably want to visit the church of Saint-Étienne and its incredible 15th-century stained glass windows: it’s well worth the diversions. After a bucolic stroll along the banks of the Vienne, stop off at the Musée Paul Rebeyrolle (for painting enthusiasts). It would be a shame to leave without a souvenir… Local honey, local cheese or fresh cider: take a gourmet break at the market! Head for Felletin, another gem on the Plateau de Millevaches, but with its own speciality: tapestry. And not just any tapestry, as it is home to some of the finest tapestry manufacturers in the world. To discover the secrets of this art form, visit the Maison du Tapissier. And as a nature bonus: Felletin is also the gateway to the Monts d’Ambazac and the Millevaches plateau. A real playground for walkers and nature lovers.

Hiking around Peyrelevade: it's time for a 100% natural adventure!

Around Peyrelevade, nature is just waiting for you! Mysterious forests, bewitching peat bogs, crystal-clear rivers and breathtaking panoramas: here, every path has a story to tell (and sometimes even a few curious cows to keep you company…). Whether you’re a Sunday hiker or a veteran, we’ve got some great routes for you, for all abilities! On the slightly mystical side, venture out on the Longeyroux peat bog trail 13kms from the campsite, a unique natural trail that will plunge you into a landscape of wild moors, snaking streams and preserved peat bogs with a rich flora and fauna (7kms trail, easy level). If you keep your eyes peeled, you’re likely to spot carnivorous plants and otters lurking about. For exceptional panoramic views, take to the heights and head to Suc au May (40kms from the campsite): the rooftop of the Limousin culminating at an altitude of 908m! On this more intermediate route (5km), you can admire a panoramic view of the Plateau de Millevaches and the Monts d’Auvergne. Family outings? Take on the Sentier des Bois de Crozat, where the main theme is the forest: fir, beech and chestnut trees (9km). So, are you ready to escape to the heart of nature? Don’t forget your hiking shoes!

A little corner of paradise in the heart of the Millevaches Regional Nature Park: welcome to Lac de Vassivière!

If you thought the Corrèze was all forests and fields of cows, think again! At Lac de Vassivière, it’s almost like being at the seaside… but without the crowds and jellyfish. This local natural gem on the Plateau de Millevaches is the perfect spot to combine relaxation, nature and outdoor activities, with its 1,000 hectares of water. More sporty holidaymakers will enjoy water sports such as paddle, jet-ski, canoe/kayak, water-ski and wakeboard. It’s a great way to discover the area’s beautiful landscapes from a different angle, and a great way for the whole family to enjoy themselves. On hot summer days, swimming is permitted and supervised. It’s also the ideal spot for predator fishing, on foot or by boat! And since we don’t judge, you can also enjoy a lazy day on the beaches by the lake and enjoy a picnic in the sunshine. There are no fewer than 30km of footpaths between forests and wild creeks, which can be explored on foot or mountain bike (and even on horseback…). All in all, it’s an exciting day out in the great outdoors!

The Aubusson Tapestry: a masterpiece woven over the centuries

If you think tapestry is a thing of the past, it’s time to take a trip to Aubusson! Here, tapestry is an exceptional art form, listed as an intangible cultural heritage site by UNESCO, and it has continued to fascinate the whole world for over six centuries. Since the 15th century, the town of Aubusson and its neighbours (including Felletin) have been sharing their expertise. Each piece is meticulously woven by hand on a vertical loom. There’s no cheating here: each thread is laid with surgical precision, transforming wool and silk into formidable works of art. From mythological scenes to bucolic landscapes and chivalric epics, you’re sure to be impressed! Contemporary artists such as Jean Lurçat and even Hayao Miyazaki have taken to the looms to breathe new life into this tradition. For even more knowledge, head to the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie d’Aubusson. This ultra-modern museum exhibits incredible works, from ancient tapestries to more recent ones. You can also discover the secrets of tapestry making and meet passionate craftsmen. For the more curious, you can even try your hand at tapestry-making (although it’s still a craft, so you’ll have to be patient…).
